The typical STP Counselor is an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in psychology, social work, education, or related fields. Counselors work together in groups of 4 to 5 to implement treatment for 12-16 children with ADHD. Counselors implement behavior modification during recreational activities (e.g., soccer, softball, basketball) and engage children in social skills and problem-solving training. Counselors as well plan activities and aid to design and implement treatment modifications to meet the needs of individual children. A program manual outlines all procedures. All counselors are supervised by Ph.D and M.D.-level faculty at Penn State University and receive instruction in a wide array of evidence-based behavioral interventions for children with ADHD and a range of comorbidities. Multiple previous counselors have gone on to earn advanced degrees in psychology and related fields.
